Redirect Best Practices
- 301 (Permanent): Use for pages that have permanently moved. Passes ~95% of link equity.
- 302 (Temporary): Use only for temporary moves. Does not pass full link equity.
- Avoid chains: More than 2 redirects slows down the user and may cause crawl issues.
- Redirect loops: A redirects to B which redirects back to A. These break the page entirely.
- HTTP → HTTPS: Every site should redirect HTTP to HTTPS. Check that yours does.
